We’re thrilled to announce that Clean Law PC has been selected to host a workshop at Solar Power International and Energy Storage International 2019, being held September 23-26, 2019 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, UT. The workshop, entitled “Real Estate Due Diligence for Solar Projects,” is scheduled for Monday, September 23, 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm and will provide in-depth analysis of securing effective land control as a crucial step in the development of any clean energy project while balancing landowner, developer, and investor interests.

Renewable Energy FIRM’s GROWTH CONTINUES in 2019

Clean Law PC is thrilled to announce that Theresa M. Carroll has joined the Firm as an Associate effective today.
Ms. Carroll represents clean energy developers with respect to real estate and other matters. In addition, she has robust experience practicing in the area of insurance coverage, coverage litigation, general commercial litigation, and reinsurance. Ms. Carroll has advised clients on a variety of complex issues involving primary and excess general liability, first party property, third party casualty, and bad faith claims. She has litigated insurance coverage and commercial disputes in federal and state courts across the country, and also advises clients on reducing and avoiding liability outside the context of litigation.
Ms. Carroll graduated cum laude from Washington University School of Law in 2011 and the Duke University with a B.A. in Political Science and a Certificate in Latin American Studies in 2007. In law school, she was president of the Environmental Law Society and was a student attorney with the Interdisciplinary Environmental Clinic. Her legal internship experiences include doing environmental enforcement work for the U.S. Department of Justice and working for the White House Center for Environmental Quality during a semester in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Carroll is licensed to practice in Illinois, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, and is an active member of the Women in Renewable Industries and Sustainable Energy (“WRISE,” (formerly “Wowe”)).

Renewable Energy Attorneys Team Up in 2019

John F. Young of Clean Law PC and Christine Fernandez Owen of the Law Offices of Christine Fernandez, LLC today announce that they have agreed to combine their firms effective January 1, 2019. The two firms are based in Chicago, Illinois, and offer legal services primarily to the renewable energy industry. Ms. Fernandez Owen will become a Shareholder of Clean Law PC and Mr. Young will remain President of Clean Law PC.
Ms. Fernandez Owen provides legal services to developers, owners, and operators of wind, solar, and energy storage projects, and founded the Law Offices of Christine Fernandez, LLC in August 2017. Ms. Fernandez Owen focuses her practice on the support of development efforts of renewable projects, including negotiation of site control documents, title and other real estate review, environmental diligence, negotiation of other commercial contracts used in the development and construction of such renewable energy projects, and diligence in support of acquisitions of renewable energy projects. Law Offices of Christine Fernandez, LLC is a business member of the Illinois Solar Energy Association (“ISEA”) and Ms. Fernandez Owen is an active member of the Women in Renewable Industries and Sustainable Energy (“WRISE,” (formerly “Wowe”)), and will serve as a Board Member of the Chicago Chapter of WRISE beginning January 2019. Ms. Fernandez Owen has more than 10 years’ experience in the renewable energy industry and previously worked in the in-house legal department for one of the largest owners of renewable energy projects, where she handled all legal aspects of the solar business unit. Previous to that, she worked in the environmental practice group of a large law firm doing both litigation and transactional work. She graduated with honors from The George Washington University Law School in 2002 and the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources in 1997.
Mr. Young has been providing legal services through Clean Law PC since April 2017. He regularly advises renewable energy developers and operators on an extensive array of real estate and other matters, having previously served as the leader of the real estate energy team for an Am Law100 law firm and as in-house counsel to one of the world's largest renewable energy developers. While in-house, he was responsible for handling all legal aspects of the company’s North American real estate development, as well as serving as primary counsel for Department of Defense initiatives and various joint venture relationships, project acquisition and divestiture, construction projects, power purchase agreements, purchasing/supply chain master service arrangements, corporate governance issues and regulatory/utility compliance matters. Mr. Young is a classically trained real estate lawyer and regularly represents clients on a wide variety of complex commercial real estate matters, including property acquisition/disposition, leasing, land use, construction, joint venture and financing matters. He graduated Order of the Coif from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law in 2000 and summa cum laude University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1993.
By combining their practices into the existing Clean Law PC, Ms. Fernandez Owen and Mr. Young can provide a broader breadth and depth of knowledge in the industry, and in the relevant areas of law, to their respective clients.
